The Face of America: A Candid Discussion on Current Immigration Issues at the Southern Border
Over the course of the last several years, we have all seen news segments about the migrants at the southern border of the United States. The question that many of us have, and that this webinar will attempt to answer is: “What is really going on at our Southern Border?” The rhetoric surrounding U.S. immigration policy has become so polarized that it sometimes takes away from the realities and human consequences. It is important to understand both past and current policies and realities so our country can move forward, while we are reminded that we are a nation of immigrants and a nation where racial and ethnic minorities make up approximately 40% of our population. This webinar will present a candid discussion on immigration issues both at the southern border and otherwise, and will feature recognized subject-matter experts as well as attorneys who are on the ground and are involved in the representation of migrants.

Panelists include:
- Lee Gelernt – Deputy Director, Immigrants’ Rights Project, American Civil Liberties Union — will discuss family separation
- Monica Khant – Executive Director, Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence — will discuss immigrant trafficking
- Priscilla Orta – Senior Staff Attorney, ABA South Texas Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project (ProBAR) — will discuss asylum seekers
- Daniela Dwyer – Team Manager, Farmworker Law, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid — will discuss migrant and seasonal workers
- Richard Pena (Moderator) – President and CEO, Law Offices of Richard Pena P.C.; Vice Chair, Rights of Immigrants Committee, ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice

CART services will be available.
